With over 20 years of 'on the job experience' in the hardwood floor industry, I have gained invaluable knowledge in just about every aspect of what it takes to provide the best results possible.  I'm proud to be a lifelong Western Washington resident. My wife and I, both,  feel very fortunate to be raising our daughters in such a beautiful and diverse area. One of my favorite aspects about being a small business owner is the people I get to meet and the variety of personalities that come along with it.

My mission is simple and straight forward: To combine honest guidance with superior craftsmanship.

  Travis Green  - Owner/Operator

Superior craftsmanship is the keystone in our foundation.

As the owner/operator, I work on every project myself. My team consists of only journeyman level, hardwood professionals. Together, we have over 50 years of combined experience and have worked together for a very long time. Each member of my team is a true specialist in the industry.

SERVICES & TECHNIQUES

Installation

We are proven experts at installation of all types of hardwood flooring. Whether it be pre-finished solid, pre-finished engineered, site finished solid, or site finished engineered, the installation application must be correct. There are as many installation techniques as there are different types of hardwood flooring. To ensure stability and long life, the correct installation method must be used. We take the time and have the knowledge to guarantee proper installation, every time.

Sand & Finish

This process is what separates the good hardwood contractors from the great hardwood floor contractors.

Site evaluation and installation must be performed correctly, but they are essentially the prep work required for a beautiful sand & finish job. Sanding a wood floor, whether it’s newly installed or existing wood, is a process of removing the marks from the previous process. Starting with a rough grit sanding and working up to finer grits gives wood floors that smooth feel and ‘sheet of glass’ look. I consider sanding hardwoods true artistry, and usually requires years of learning and working under an established and proven professional. I was fortunate enough to learn and work under a sanding/staining guru for over twelve years. Since my first day with him many years ago, I believe the projects that I have been a part of are some of the most well done and beautifully finished floors ever.

*Lace-in installation

This technique is used when installing new hardwood into existing hardwood is required. No matter the age of the wood, and as long as it hasn’t been sanded too many times, existing hardwood flooring can be sanded and finished, often to look new again.

Time and money can be saved by using the lace-in technique.  This is a skill set that not all hardwood contractors possess or wish to utilize. Our ability and skill level when lacing-in has become a bit of a calling card for us.

Custom staining & color matching

Another feather in our cap is our ability to custom mix stains to achieve desired look, as well as color matching existing flooring. A certain set of processes must be performed to successfully stain a hardwood floor. First, there is special equipment and techniques that we use while sanding, with staining in mind. Second, we (pop the grain) just before sanding. Applying a light mist of water prior to staining, opens the grain of the wood, and once dry, the grain accepts an even and more consistent color. This process ensures the floor will not look blotchy. Also, popping the grain gives the wood a much more deep and rich look.

Stair threads and risers

We install, sand, stain & finish custom built stair treads and risers in the same way we treat the main floor. Stair treads and risers should be an extension of the hardwoods. Done correctly, the hardwood flooring should flow up the stair set with little interruption to the eye.

Honest guidance is absolutely crucial

This is achieved by, well... being honest and transparent with customers. There are numerous variables to consider when planning a hardwood floor project. Which species of wood? Pre-finished or site finished preference? What type of finish is best? The list is long.

I enjoy describing my processes and guiding customers through each variable involved. At HARDWOOD FLOOR ADVISORS, we believe a well-informed customer is crucial to any project, big or small.
